Designed for teachers, teaching assistants and Speech and Language Therapists supporting autistic and neurodiverse learners, this resource introduces the WHO layer through visual supports, real-life photographs, modelling and structured sentence-building activities.
The focus is on helping learners identify the person, animal or character involved in a sentence before gradually building towards more independent communication.

This printable resource includes teaching guidance, WHO visual supports, word cards, real-life photographs, sentence starters and structured activities to help you introduce and practise the WHO layer.
The resource includes a range of people, animals and familiar roles, along with blank templates so you can create personalised activities around your own learners and their interests.
How Can You Use It?
The WHO pack can be used during individual teaching, small-group language sessions, speech and language therapy, classroom routines and everyday communication opportunities.
The teaching guidance supports a gradual approach, beginning with adult modelling and moving towards choices, sentence completion and more independent responses. Learners can communicate through speech, AAC, signing, gesture, pointing or another communication method.
The aim is to build understanding of who a sentence is about rather than simply encouraging children to repeat a sentence.
